Son Little’s latest album, Like Neptune, was created in a cabin overlooking the Delaware River and contrasts his past existential struggles with themes of joy and self-acceptance. It explores overcoming generational trauma, blending blues and the art of healing. During the 2020 lockdown, Son Little rediscovered old journals that led him to confront past abuse and trauma. Years of anxiety, substance abuse, and depression eventually led him back to therapy in 2017, where he found breakthroughs through methods like EMDR and Internal Family Systems therapy, which helped him heal by engaging with his inner “parts.”

This album reflects his musical evolution from underground hip-hop to soul, incorporating DIY bedroom recordings, ’70s Bowie, psychedelic cumbia, and a renewed focus on joy in the creative process. Like Neptune combines raw, honest emotion with soulful instrumentation, featuring standout tracks like “drummer,” “6 AM,” and “inside out.” These songs represent different emotional facets of Son Little’s journey, from self-doubt to vulnerability.
